The insight of Brussel Attack: Series of terrorism in Europe

Just only after 4 days of capturing of Salah Abdeslam,one of the suspect of the series of coordinated terrorist attack and bombings in Paris that killed about 130 people back in November 2015  - Belgium, which shares the Border with Paris, mourned for the another deadly synced bombings that tolled 32 people and injured more than 300. Belgium is believed to be the hub for the recent terrorism in Europe. It is conjectured that about 500 people from Belgium left the country to attend the Jihadist camp and, to fight in co-operation with ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Lavant) in 2015. The repeated connection of city like  Sint-Jans-Molenbeck (municipality in Brussel) and, the volunteering  of European citizens in such attacks, suggest the network and planning of the terrorism in the Europe can’t be underestimated .

Three major explosions were heard early morning of 22^nd March, two in Brussel International Airport at 7:58 and, third one in one of the compartment of three carriage rail in Molenbeck Metro Station at 9:11. Another bomb was diffused by the Brussel’s police officials on the Airport by controlled explosion. The bystanders at the Airport where first two explosion occurred asserted that they heard yelling of Kuran Verses before the deadly suicide bombings. Later  ISIL claimed responsibility of the attack.


So far 4 people are suspected of involvement in the suicide bombings of which Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakroui are believed to be the brothers. In the CCTV camera footage at Brussels International Airport, Ibrahim was seen with other two men. They were seen pushing the separate luggage trolleys wearing black globes where they hide the homemade nails-explosives. Ibrahim and another suspect blew themselves in an interval of few minutes killing 17 general people at the International airport there. Another suspect, identified as Najim, an engineering dropout, is believed to be escaped from the scene. Khalid killed himself killing at least 20 people in Moleenbeck Metro Station. 


Investigation revealed that about 33 pound of the homemade explosive was used in the bombings. The key explosive ingredient was discovered to be TATP (Tri acetone Tri peroxide), which is also called ‘The Mother of Satan’ among pyromaniacs. The TATP is very famous among the terrorist as it can be made easily at home; the ingredients are easily available at pharmacy and cosmetics and, is about 80% as strong as TNT. The crystalline chemical can easily pass through the security breach as it contains the elements (C, H & O) as other general substance and doesn’t contain the Nitrogen and other elements that is generally the major component of the explosive which are detectable by existing security system. This must be the reason it has become prominent component of such homemade but unbelievably dangerous explosives. The same type of explosive was used in Paris bombings few months back and recent terrorist attacks. The scientist of different countries have already invented the device that can detect TATP, DADP other such chemicals but adding that to the existing security system is still challenging for governments.

The series of the raid is being conducted after the attack and dozens of suspects are arrested. Belgian Police are still searching for the fourth suspect who was seen on the Brussel Airport CCTV footage and the Belgian government has told that they will not back off from the situation and continue the hunt down of the terrorists.The government of the Belgium has declared the second of three days of national mourning and also conducted the minutes of silence across the country.
